Boca Raton, FL – Putting sustainability at the center of its product development and business operations, Hollander Sleep & Décor is taking on a major initiative to cut back its use of plastic in exchange for environmentally-friendly alternatives.

The bedding company is transitioning from polybag to biodegradable plant-based packaging by 2023.

This commitment resonates with increasing demand from shoppers, noted Amy Price, chief commercial officer.

Hollander rebranding iconic owned brands

“57% of consumers are ready to change their purchasing behavior to be more sustainable and consumers expect businesses to step in and lead the way,” she explained. “It is our social responsibility, and the time is now to make this change.”

Like its traditional polyethylene packaging, Hollander’s new plant-based bags also offer application flexibility and performance and can be recycled. The bio-bags are third party-tested and verified – 55% of each bag is made with sugarcane ethanol, which requires the use of less fossil fuels than its counterpart. Additionally, the new bags capture and fix CO2 from the atmosphere during production, helping to reduce greenhouse gases emission.

As sugarcane polymers are a renewable resource and don’t depend on fossil fuels, “there is a substantial environmental benefit,” the company noted.

“Bags are needed to protect our product from our manufacturing facility to your home,” said Hollander CEO Thomas Pinnau. “But we have a responsibility to deliver thoughtful packaging that reduces our carbon footprint and that is our commitment to our consumers and retail partners.”
